THE FUEL TANK?

AdBlue belongs in a separate tank

AdBlue is used by a vehicle’s emissions system; it is not an additive for the diesel or petrol tank. If it has been poured into the fuel filler, do not turn on the ignition or attempt to drive. Tell us explicitly that AdBlue went into the fuel tank so the enquiry is handled as an AdBlue contamination job, rather than a standard fuel mix-up.

What information we need first

Have the registration or make and model ready. Tell us which filler was used, what liquid went in, the approximate amount and whether you then added fuel. We also need to know whether the ignition was switched on, the engine started or the vehicle driven. Keep the container if you have it, as its label may help identify the product.

Why an AdBlue job is different

AdBlue contamination can affect the fuel system and require specialist cleaning or further work. The appropriate response depends on the vehicle and whether the contamination has circulated. A standard drain price or petrol-and-diesel procedure should not be assumed to apply. We assess the situation and explain the scope before work starts.

Already started or driven the vehicle?

Stop in a safe place and leave the engine switched off. Do not try to clear a warning light with another start or a top-up. Explain what happened and any loss of power, warning messages or running problems. We cannot establish the condition of the system from a phone description alone, so the technician’s assessment is important.

Fuel in the AdBlue reservoir is a different issue

Diesel or petrol in the AdBlue tank affects a separate system from AdBlue in the fuel tank. Screenwash or another liquid in the AdBlue reservoir is also a different enquiry. Make clear which filler you used; if you are not sure, say so. We can discuss the appropriate assessment without assuming all AdBlue warning lights mean the same fault.

AdBlue work is quoted separately from the standard from-£135 fuel drain. The vehicle, contamination and whether the engine ran determine what needs to be done. Confirm the exact location and access arrangements when you call.
